RUCKER SENTENCED TO 47 YEARS

January 16, 2013

ANDERSON,SC. Keith Rucker pled guilty today in Anderson General Sessions Court to Voluntary Manslaughter and Death of a Child in Utero. The Honorable Cordell Maddox sentenced Rucker to 30 years on the Manslaughter and 17 years on the Death of a Child in Utero. The sentences are to be served consecutively.

On January 18, 2011, when Kacey Roberson failed to pick up her two children from daycare, the school contacted her stepfather to have him do a well-being check. Upon arrival at the victim’s apartment, the stepfather found Ms. Roberson lying in the floor with her head covered in blood. She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. Ms. Roberson was 16 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

The victim’s car was found abandoned in Lavonia, Georgia. Rucker turned himself in to the Lavonia Police Department and was returned to Anderson. The defendant gave two statements regarding the details surrounding Kacey’s death and that of their unborn child.

“Today’s sentence will send Mr. Rucker to prison for the next forty-seven years while saving the victim’s family the stress and hardship of a trial,” said Solicitor Chrissy Adams.  “I hope each day he is behind bars will serve as a continual reminder to him of his actions and of the two innocent lives that he took.”
