A Starr man pled guilty this week rather than face an upcoming trial for sexually abusing his niece, announced Solicitor Micah E. Black.
Donovan Stamps, 21, pled guilty on August 26, 2026, to one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor in the First Degree. Circuit Court Judge J. Derham Cole, Jr. sentenced Stamps to thirty (30) years in prison. Stamps will not be parole eligible and will be considered a violent offender while in the South Carolina Department of Correction. Stamps is now a registered sex offender and will be subject to a court ordered an ankle monitor upon his release from prison.
On March 21, 2024, the minor victim’s mother contacted the Anderson County Sheriff’s office in reference to her family member sexually assaulting her minor child. The mother informed law enforcement that she walked into Donavan Stamps bedroom at the back of the family home looking for her minor daughter, and she observed the defendant performing oral sex on her minor daughter. The minor child was immediately taken to Prisma Health in Greenville for a medical examination by her mother, and later forensic testing from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) confirmed the occurrence of the assault. Law Enforcement interviewed the defendant after he was arrested, and the defendant did confess to actions.
Solicitor Micah Black prosecuted the case for the State, with the assistance of his staff Donna Baxter and Investigator Frank Wooten. Stamps was represented by Patrick Yon of the Anderson Bar. Black praised the work of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and investigator Travis Bolton in securing a conviction against Stamps.
“Donavan Stamps will spend the next three decades in prison due to the swift actions of the victim’s mother upon her discovery of this heinous crime and the thorough investigation of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office,” stated Solicitor Black. “I am thankful that the victim is now safe and my prayer is that the family will be able to heal and move forward from this awful act knowing that this abuser will spend the next 30 years locked up at the Department of Corrections.”
