(Anderson, SC). Twenty-five year old Terrance Joshua Burdette pled guilty Tuesday in Anderson General Sessions Court to Assault and Battery, 1st Degree, for an attack on his mother in 2013. The Honorable Cordell Maddox sentenced Burdette to 10 years in prison.
On June 27, 2013, Burdette assaulted his mother in their home during an argument over a dog. The defendant grabbed the 67-year old woman by the throat and began strangling her. He also pointed a handgun at her and threatened to kill her. The entire event was captured on a home security camera which the defendant’s parents had installed due to previous incidents involving their son.
“This case reminds us that sometimes the greatest danger we face does not come from strangers on the street but from those we love,” stated Solicitor Chrissy Adams. “As a community, we need to learn to recognize the signs of domestic abuse in all age groups and report the behavior to the proper authorities. Fortunately, this mother survived the abuse from her son. With Terrance Joshua Burdette in prison for 10 years, his mother and father can now feel safe in their home.”
